This story is about my community poem
I tell stories from the front and back lines of the newsroom. This story is about my community poem.
First, they came for the politicians
And I did not speak out
Because I do not belong to a party
Then they came for disabled journalists
And I did not speak out
Because my disability is invisible
Then they came for the teachers
And I did not speak out
Because I was not smart enough
Then they came for the white women
And I did not speak out
Because newsrooms would notice
Then they came for Wikipedia
And I yelled out
Because Wikimedians are my people
Then they tried to come for me
And there was no one left to recruit
To come to my community
Wikipedia Day 2026 was postponed out of an abundance of caution amid an epic snow day. I planned to read this poem to my fellow Wikipedians.
